I teach All Day Kindergarten. My class has 17 boys and 5 girls. Our school houses all Kindergartners. The children in my classroom begin reading by Fall and are thirsty to be independent readers. To motivate additional reading at home I send home "Baggie Books." Every child's reading level is evaluated and books that match their ability are sent home to read to parents, the pet dog, teddy bears etc.!
This year I am finding that my limited titles are not enough. I have children who have read each book and are looking for more choices. The children are enjoying fiction and non-fiction. My selection of non-fiction is very limited. These five and six year olds love to read but I am running out of selections to offer them.
