My school is located in Northern California, 100% of my school is on free lunch, and more than 80% of my students are English Language Learners. The students walk to and from school crossing through neighborhoods that have been witness to gang fights, drug deals, and multiple families living within its homes. I battle against outside influences on a daily basis to show my students how important and life changing an education can be for them. Even with the odds against us, my students and I will not let this define us. My students come into class, ready to work and willing to learn, they want to do better, be the first from their families to graduate from high school or go to college. Every year I hope that my classes help make that difference for them.
