We would like to take our 5th grade class on a field trip to Jr. Achievement Biztown. This experience will allow students the opportunities to become both producers and consumers in a simulated economy. Some jobs include being a mayor of the city, CFOs and CEOs of major local companies, bank tellers, salesman, etc. Students earn a paycheck. They learn how to desposit the money. They learn how to write checks and how to use a debit card. This field trip provides opportunities that we would not be able to give them in the classroom.
We want them to see how they can apply the math, language arts, science, engineering, art, and social studies skills into the work place.
Our school only pays for one field trip a year and traditionally we go to the Symphony. We love the exposure the students receive with the Symphony. However, we would also like to give the students an opportunity to see how their education is essential to their future. The cost is $5 per student plus a fee for transportation. Students who participate in this field trip walk away with a purpose. They understand that someday they will enter the work force and they will need to have skills in order to be successful. This field trip allows them to see how they can be successful and that they have a purpose!
