I consider myself very lucky. Each school day at 7:45, I am greeted with 26 smiling faces. Each of my second grade students comes to school excited to learn. I teach in a high need high crime community in Maryland. My students see things everyday that I hope to never see in my lifetime. Our classroom community is a place where they feel safe not only physically, but also emotionally. They know that it is a place where they can take risks, make mistakes, and most importantly, grow.
