We are an urban New Jersey school situated in a deplorable neighborhood. Most students are provided with free lunches and for some this is their only nutritious meal of the day.
2010 was a terrible blow to our school with all of the cuts in the New Jersey state budget. Our needs are many and we do our best to provide basic supplies in our classrooms in order to provide these at-risk students with the quality education that they deserve. Our teachers and students work hard every day to close the learning gap, quantified by our rising standardized test scores.
Our art budget was hit hard this year and we can only provide some of the supplies we would like to have for our students. We are currently using leftover colored pencils and erasers, which I would love to replace with new ones. So much creative potential is lying dormant in these little people and I would love to be able to inspire their greatness!
