My kindergarteners are very eager and excited to read. They are very hands-on and they excel when at centers where they can work at their own pace on independent and small group activities. Our school is Title I, with an increased percentage of children needing free and reduced lunch. Our class is very varied--some of our class came into school with no preschool and little exposure to books while a couple came in reading at a first grade level. And then about a third of the class is English Language Learners.
