There are so many different ways to explain who my class is but what amazes me most about them is their passion, curiosity, and eagerness to learn.
We're a diverse, urban school with 67% students who qualify for free and reduced lunch. Seventy-five percent of our students speak a second language at home. Many of my students come from single parent homes or parents working two or three jobs and are expected to be responsible/independent for themselves and younger siblings. Many of them go home to empty houses and are expected to feed themselves and siblings, do homework, and basically take on the role of a parent. I want them to be able to be part of something bigger/better than the continuous hardships they face.
