I am the School Counselor for 550 students in Kindergarten through fifth grade at a public elementary school. Our free/reduced lunch is around 50% but that is not high enough to receive Title funds. Thus, we often do not have extra funds to buy things our students need. Although I work with all of the students in our building, there are specific students that come to mind when writing this grant. Many of our students who are in crisis or have been traumatized need additional tools to help them cope and calm down so that they can access their education and learn social-emotional skills to help them navigate their angry/upset feelings.
Sensory tools/fidgets is one intervention we use in working with students needing calming strategies. We would like for all 24 classrooms/specialist's rooms to have their own basket of sensory tools for students to access when needing this type of break.
