Our school is a multi-cultural mix of 675 students. Over 60% are English language learners. Our school is a Title 1 school with 86% receiving free and/or reduced lunch.
Our students are hard-working and motivated to do well in school. However, there are limited opportunities outside of school for our students to collaborate with others on challenging design projects. Many of our students' parents work multiple jobs and still struggle to make ends meet. Therefore, they are not able to provide enriching activities such as going to science museums or even buying books about science concepts. We understand how this impoverishment limits students' access to the engineering principles, and we are willing to go the extra mile to make sure that they are prepared for the expectations of the 21st century.
