The demographics of the 494 students in my school are 59% African American, 3% Hispanic, 37% White and 1% other. The poverty index of our school is 80.96%. Therefore, these children must have the opportunity to experience the love of learning in a research and standard based, hands on, exciting classroom. The problem is the games are not available.
The students in our school want to learn. They are not always motivated by their home environment, so the school must make the best out of the time we are together. We have gotten many service learners and AmeriCorps students to dedicate time to our students to move them in the direction we want for all students.
These high school students would love to tutor a student if the gaming strategy could be used.
The students at our school get so excited when a teacher chooses to "think out of the box".
