My student have been moved to my room from local schools in our district and surrounding cities. Their behaviors had become so out of control, suspended so many times, and had failed attempts at interventions, that they have been given the label of emotionally impaired and placed in my classroom. Why are their behaviors like this: physical abuse, sexual abuse, neglect and some stories that most adults cannot even listen to let alone imagine living through. Parents have given up on them or never given a chance, they have failed in their classrooms, been in and out of hospital systems...and then they get to my room. I have to build optimism, confidence, a family like structure, build enthusiasm, change beliefs, help them realize that their is good in this world and then teach math, reading, and writing. I want to give them opportunities they have been denied. They are an awesome group of 4th- 6th graders and believe me, they love school. Others have given up on them, I refuse.
