I endeavor to inspire my Homeroom girls to believe that their circumstances don't dictate their future. I let them know that their experiences are a part of their story but it is not the end, only the beginning. The students in my homeroom have life experiences very similar to Ms. Haddish and this book club reading project will inspire them to continue to believe that they can achieve their dreams if they work hard and never give up. I am requesting 8 Hardcover books -"The Last Black Unicorn" to read daily together. The class will complete regular written and verbal reflections as well as collaborative group discussion. It will culminate in an oral presentation about the connections the students have made, and the impact the book had on their perception of how one can be successful despite the obstacles they endure.
Our schools' mission continues to state that we want our students to become life-long learners who become successful, productive and creative individuals.
