I teach at a Title 1 school in Landover Hills, Maryland. The majority of my students are Hispanic, but they work hard when it comes to learning. This past school year 104 schools did not make AYP (Adequate Yearly Progress) but our school, Glenridge, did!!!! Our principal is so happy and proud of the students at her school, but funds are limited. The boys and girls at Glenridge Elementary School really work hard despite the fact that over 85% of them receive free or reduced lunch making it a high poverty Title 1 school. I think that the children should be rewarded for all of their hard work, and reading comfortably on a nice new reading rug would really make them happy.
